“BIG BANG” FALLACY

Commentary

Scripture References

The Big Bang Theory is the unbiblical claim that the entire universe originated from nothing and was brought into existence when a microscopic, dense fireball exploded (or expanded). However, this theory does not and cannot account for the origin or cause of this alleged pre-existing fireball nor the elements required to detonate (or expand) it. Nonetheless, the Big Bang Theory asserts that everything came from nothing, which created something that resulted in everything. In other words, “nothing” was the cause of “everything.”

World-renowned atheist Professor Richard Dawkins confirmed the nonsensical nature of “nothing was the cause of everything” by stating, “Of course, it’s counterintuitive that you can get something from nothing. Of course, common sense doesn’t allow you to get something from nothing. That’s why it’s interesting. It’s got to be interesting in order to give rise to the universe at all. Something pretty mysterious had to give rise to the origin of the universe. You can dispute exactly what is meant by nothing but whatever it is, it’s very, very simple” (Richard Dawkins and Catholic Cardinal George Pell discuss religion, morals, and evolution on Q&A; 10-4-2012 ABC TV).

It is telling that Professor Dawkins attempted to define “nothing” as something other than sheer nothingness, the absence of anything, or non-existence to make the Big Bang Theory’s nonsensical claim more palatable. Yet his attempt to justify such a notion emphasized the absurdity of the theory despite his unwavering adherence to it.

The truth of how the universe and everything in it came into being was not by way of nothing or an alleged pre-existing yet unaccounted-for fireball that exploded. It arose from nothing when God spoke it into existence. The Bible says in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (NASB). It also declares in Colossians 1:16, “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him” (NASB).

The Bible also accounts for God’s “origin” by revealing that He is an eternal Being with no beginning or end. Psalm 90:2 states, “Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God” (NASB). God said in Isaiah 43:12-13, “And I am God. Even from eternity I am He, and there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?” (NASB).

Therefore, the claim that everything came from nothing, which created something that resulted in everything, is false. God is the original or first cause for the universe and everything in it to exist, for “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17 NASB).
