REWARDS IN HEAVEN

Commentary

 Scripture References

At least 19 verses in the New Testament speak of believers receiving rewards from God in heaven for their faithful deeds on Earth. The Bible does not specify each reward but mentions various crowns, a prophet’s reward, and a righteous man’s reward. It also identifies rewards or blessings like leadership positions, true riches, and property in heaven. These things are in addition to believers spending eternity with Jesus, which is the greatest reward of all.

Rewards will be dispersed to believers during the judgment seat of Christ. This judgment occurs at God’s appointed time when believers must give an account to Jesus for the things He entrusted to them. However, they will not be judged for their sins because they were washed and cleansed by Jesus’ blood the moment they became born-again (Ephesians 1:7-8; Colossians 2:13-14).

During the judgment seat of Christ, Jesus will test the quality of each believer’s works and deeds with fire. This fire will reveal which ones are like “gold, silver, and precious stones” and which are like “wood, hay, and straw.” Believers will be rewarded for their works that survived God’s test but suffer a loss of reward for those that disintegrated. Regardless, a believer’s salvation is never in jeopardy of revocation since that gift was imparted to them by God when they trusted Jesus for their forgiveness and salvation.
