Will believers have access to Heaven and Earth during the Millennium?
The Bible states that all glorified saints will leave Heaven and come to Earth with Jesus at His second coming. They will also remain on Earth for 1,000 years to assist Jesus as He rules and reigns from Jerusalem.
Revelation 19:13-14, “He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
Revelation 20:4, “And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.”
Revelation 20:6, “Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.”
Jeremiah 3:17, “At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts.”
Therefore, glorified believers will have full access to the Earth to assist Jesus as He governs the world from Jerusalem during the Millennium. However, it is unclear whether they will still have access to Heaven after they depart there with Jesus. As such, we can only speculate on that issue.
Perhaps glorified believers’ access to Heaven will be temporarily halted because their job (and focus) will be to help Jesus govern those on Earth for 1,000 years. Or maybe their access to Heaven will be permanently revoked because they will dwell in the New Heaven and New Earth God creates after the Millennium (see Revelation 21:1-5). It is also possible that glorified believers’ access to Heaven will remain partially or fully intact during the Millennium.
Regardless, one thing is sure: Every glorified believer who returns to Earth with Jesus at His second coming to help Him rule and reign will not long for the Heaven they left. Instead, they will be filled with abundant joy and everlasting peace on Earth as they serve their holy and perfect Savior, King Jesus—the Lord of Heaven and Earth!
